Anesthesia more than any other medical specialty is characterized by polypharmacy, with up to 10 drugs used for the healthiest patient for simple procedure, to over 25 drugs required for the care of very ill patients having complex surgeries. Anesthesia is at the forefront of the translation of pharmacogenetic insights to the bedside.
