Wisconsin has a rich maritime history that starts in the days of building wooden ships. Women in Sturgeon Bay helped to weld giant iron steamers together during World War II. Lake transportation meant that grain, ore and lumber could travel by ship to the Eastern states. The launch of the Milwaukee Schooner gives hope that Wisconsin's maritime history will be passed along to future generations.
